I once heard Pat Metheny talk about the first opening notes of Brightsize Life, and how it set a tone for the project he was working on that eventually became a classic album. For me, the first Pat tunes I heard were from side one of American Garage. Thanks to Joe Waslousky, who also plays drums on this project, It was truly inspiring and unlike anything I had heard. I listed to that album to death and became a huge Pat fan. This project was about a few Metheny-geeks who wanted to get together and play a few great tunes. The trio had never played together prior to this session. It was recorded at Albey Road Studios in Pittsburgh. I really wanted to capture the live aspect of the session. We did everything live, with as few edits as possible. The songs have a few warts, but one thing I learned being a Grateful Dead fan is that warts can be beautiful in their own way. Thanks to Brian Stahurski and Joe Waslousky for their beautiful playing, and creative delivery of these beautiful songs.
